Child Well Being policy

Child Well Being Policy

In school we have a commitment to every child meeting the 5 outcomes of Every Child Matters. These 5 outcomes are Enjoy and Achieve, Stay safe, Be Healthy, Achieve Economic Well Being and make a Positive Contribution. In order to do this we may feel that the child and his/her family needs extra support for a specific time in order to overcome specific stresses in their lives and we feel the child is affected by these stresses. The following steps will be taken when we think a Child Well Being process may help the child to achieve the 5 outcomes.

  • Concerns discussed with the parents/carers

  • A pre-assessment may be useful but not essential

  • Common Assessment Framework completed (by a member of staff that has been trained to do so), assessing against the 5 outcomes, and it will be decided at what level support will be needed at.

  • Consent gained (written or if not, verbal) for sharing information and working with other professionals that may hold information about the child/family or may be able to offer services.

  • A Child Well Being meeting will be called.

  • An action plan will be written.

  • Written records will be kept about the child, conversations, contacts and visits and any other information we receive that we feel relevant or may become relevant.

  • Monitoring forms will be completed and sent to the CWB central team, co-ordinated by Gill Newey.

  • CAF re-visited where necessary.

We have a commitment to comprehensive and efficient communication with parents/carers/ children and other professionals at all times during a Child Well Being process.

We may feel it necessary to seek further advice from a CWB co-ordinator or pyramid lead. We can do this without consent to share information providing it is within our own establishment or if personal details are not released.

The named CWB co-ordinator in school is Charlotte Clerehugh.

The CWB Pyramid Lead is Jemma Edwards ( Featherstone Technology College).

If at any point we feel the child is at risk of significant harm or is experiencing significant harm this will become a child protection issue. See Safeguarding and Child Protection Policy.

We have information leaflets available for families regarding the Child Well Being model.

We have a commitment to staff training and training will be received by relevant staff where available.

CWB will form part of new members of staff’s induction.
